PIKE - Current Projects

The PIKE team is currently engaged in a range of research projects within the North West region. These include:

Felt Needs
PIKE is involved in a piece of research entitled ‘An Assessment of the Concerns of North West Businesses in Relation to Crime’. This involves speaking to a selection of businesses across the North West. It is anticipated that the research will provide information on the perceptions of business crime by its staff/proprietors. This could include any trends that may appear and what the feelings of businesses are regarding crime in the area. From this, the PIKE project may be able to help businesses by assessing what is needed in terms of protection against crime, depending on these trends. Any identified trends will inform the PIKE project of the ways in which businesses can be supported and protected against crime. The research will be completed by June 2008.

Bolton Industrial Estate Software
This involves working with the Bolton IEPBID to provide software on crime mapping for potential projects.

Training Opportunities for Business Crime
Dr Martin O’Brien from the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies is working in collaboration with PIKE towards producing a process report on the types of training available for staff seeking to combat business crime.

AXA Business Crime Survey
Richard Davies from AXA Insurance Group and PIKE are identifying the potential to produce a business crime survey to identify crime patterns and trends.

Good Practice
PIKE is identifying good practice examples for reducing business crime.

The Chambers of Commerce
PIKE is negotiating working alongside the Chambers of Commerce to reduce business crime.

Impact of Crime on Hotels
Working alongside Preston Police, PIKE will assist in assessing the impact of crime on hotels by travelling criminals.
