PIKE - Forthcoming Events

Crime Matters - 25th June 2008

The 4th annual Crime Solutions conference is to be held on Wednesday 25th June at Farington Lodge, Leyland, Lancashire and is to be partnered by two other projects at UCLan:

PIKE (Partnerships, Innovation, Knowledge Enterprises)delivers support to small/medium businesses to reduce the impact of crime on their business and development.

Urban Regeneration, is a partnership between 4 northern universities working with local communities to deliver a wide range of regeneration activities.

The Crime Matters Conference will host an EvoFIT workshop for those interested in learning more about this revolutionary software; hailed as the 3rd generation facial composite device. Alongside the workshop we will be hosting 4 themes of interest:

Pursuit of Justice: deals with criminal justice issues such as the handling of gun crime; and i-base, a new media enabled device that assists with crime prevention.

Next Generation: showcases new restorative justice initiatives in young offender diversion and rehabilitation, as well as new media tools aimed at combatting offending behaviour in youths and young offenders.

Risky Business: will look at the effects of crime and some new methods of crime reduction specifically for small/medium enterprises.

Community Unity: will target new initiatives and studies aimed at community cohesion. Covering issues of racism, alcohol misuse and domestic violence.

ID Theft and Fraud Event - 4th June 2008

The event presents an opportunity to identify and discuss some of the various Identity theft and fraud risks that many businesses face. Businesses will be advised on the different types of ID theft and fraud, ranging from application fraud to phishing, and skimming to the fraudulent use of a business identity. It will also identify the patterns that may indicate these offences are occurring and how companies can alter procedures to help prevent fraud and ID theft.
